Madeleine (Maddy) May, MFT, is a couple and family therapist and sex therapist who believes the way we connect with one another is the key to understanding ourselves at a deeper level. Maddy has worked with individuals (both children and adults), couples, and families in a variety of settings including private practice, support groups, the non-profit sector, and corrections facilities. She uses an empathic, collaborative approach to meet clients where they are and to help them explore systemic dynamics as they relate to current issues and the clients’ overarching goals. Her professional aim is to help clients identify what would make life more satisfying.

Maddy is well-versed in the evidence-based theoretical orientations of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Mindfulness. She believes that it is never too late to seek help if you feel stuck in your life, your relationships, or you feel overwhelmed by your current circumstances. Maddy enjoys working with couples of all ages and stages of relationship. Her work with children and adolescents has included providing both individual child centered therapy and parental guidance.

Maddy specializes in working with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, the effects of trauma, relationship distress, sexual dissatisfaction, difficulty around gender identity, conflict-resolution, communication issues, anger regulation, and self-esteem concerns. Maddy considers therapy to be a process of change that requires conceptualizing each client as a whole person. This means that Maddy will work towards helping you understand yourself in the context of your current struggles, your cultural and familial background, and present aspirations and challenges, in order to facilitate growth that feels important to you.

Maddy received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from George Washington University. She received her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in sex therapy from Thomas Jefferson University, where she  graduated at the top of her class. In her free time, she enjoys dancing and learning to cook different cuisines.
